2016年自动退税W-8 WITHHOLDING

有很多人不懂美国股息有自动退税。Ali今年已经是第三年收到股息自动退税。

美国股息将扣30%Tax,如果你用本地证商还会再扣服务费(大慨USD 8),最后你的股息所剩无几。所以很多人认为投资美国股息股票是“没肉吃”,不吸引。他们的股息的钱白白被“吃掉”,实在太可惜。

今年(25/2/2017)在TD Ameritrade及TD Asia的户头里看到W-8 WITHHOLDING的项目。没错,就是2016年的自动退税。

如果用美国证卷商(例如TD Ameritrade),只是扣tax,没有服务费。一般上,bondtipsETF,去年被预扣税,今年二月都会自动退税,就会有几笔钱入账。这次退税率8%至76%,以我的MAINO为例,(前者是BDC,后者是REIT),MAIN最高取回76%退税,O则是取回22%退税。那么这些股息总的来说只是缴交13%的税务,而不是30%TD Ameritrade是提供自动退税,无需申请,无需申报。

可惜个股就没有这项自动退税,股息会被扣除30%tax。所以这也是投资REIT的另一个好处,另外投资BondTIPSETF,BDC也有自动退税。

    Thanks for the sharing all this while.
    If the W8-Ben form has been submitted, will there still be any deduction of the dividend paid?

    1. Hi Perakboy. I m "perak boy" also.
      W8ben submitted not mean tax reduction. it is declaration nationality. only some country has tax treaty with US, they can claim tax benefit.
      May I know which broker you use?

    2. I've been using E*TRADE and does not notice any deduction on the dividend paid. I'll need to pay more attention on this and confirm.

    Can you kindly post an example, on how to fill in form 1040NR (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040nr.pdf) ? As, it seems a quite complicated form :)
