美国股息将扣30%Tax,如果你用本地证商还会再扣服务费(大慨USD 8),最后你的股息所剩无几。所以很多人认为投资美国股息股票是“没肉吃”,不吸引。他们的股息的钱白白被“吃掉”,实在太可惜。
今年(25/2/2017)在TD Ameritrade及TD Asia的户头里看到W-8 WITHHOLDING的项目。没错,就是2016年的自动退税。
如果用美国证卷商(例如TD Ameritrade),只是扣tax,没有服务费。一般上,bond和tips的ETF,去年被预扣税,今年二月都会自动退税,就会有几笔钱入账。这次退税率8%至76%,以我的MAIN与O为例,(前者是BDC,后者是REIT),MAIN最高取回76%退税,O则是取回22%退税。那么这些股息总的来说只是缴交13%的税务,而不是30%。TD Ameritrade是提供自动退税,无需申请,无需申报。
可惜个股就没有这项自动退税,股息会被扣除30%tax。所以这也是投资REIT的另一个好处,另外投资Bond和TIPS,ETF,BDC也有自动退税。

DeleteW8ben submitted not mean tax reduction. it is declaration nationality. only some country has tax treaty with US, they can claim tax benefit.
May I know which broker you use?
I've been using E*TRADE and does not notice any deduction on the dividend paid. I'll need to pay more attention on this and confirm.
